My name is Chris, I'm from England, and this is the fourth in a recent series of British accent reading practice lessons where I've been reading through some famous British poems for you. The one I will read now is "London" by William Blake. Again, it's very popular and famous in the UK, talking about and giving some insight and poetic language about London a couple of hundred years ago. So I'm going to read it now, it's "London" by William Blake: I wander thro' each charter'd street, Near where the charter'd Thames does flow. And mark in every face I meet Marks of weakness, marks of woe. In every cry of every Man, In every Infants cry of fear, In every voice: in every ban, The mind-forg'd manacles I hear How the Chimney-sweepers cry Every blackning Church appalls, And the hapless Soldiers sigh Runs in blood down Palace walls But most thro' midnight streets I hear How the youthful Harlots curse Blasts the new-born Infants tear And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse. That was "London" by William Blake. Hope it was interesting and that you liked it. Thanks very much for listening. As you probably know, my name's Chris from England.
