Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles I'm from a really large family. There's Dad, Mom and then nineteen of us kids. Pretty much just one every single year and I'm number four. So growing up, I was Mommy's big helper. And if you have nineteen kids, it doesn't matter how organized you are, or what your intentions are, there will be chaos. And it's simple things like "Oh no, somebody just spilled a gallon of milk, we have to hurry and clean it up before it gets tracked through the house. Oh no!" I can help with that. "Oh no, somebody's popping popcorn and there's no popcorn lid, hurry, help, help. I can do that! So I became Angela Fix-It. Didn't matter what your problem was, I could fix it from a very, very young age. Whether it needed power tools, or it needed electronics, or a good piece of advice or maybe just a pair of helping hands. Pick me, I can help. As I grew older, I realized that sometimes the gift of helping, the best gift you can give someone in helping them is not help them at all. Here's my good idea for today. and I'm calling out all the people who live with, or are related to co-dependent people. There are people who refuse to deal with their own problems because guess what? You might be a fix-it person, you might be able to solve their problem better than they can, but every time you jump to intercept their problem, you take that lesson away from them, and now it has to come back again, and again and again...and again. Until finally they learn the lesson. So my good tip for you today is when you have a chance to help someone else, are you helping them or are you enabling them by jumping in? Sometimes your very very best solution is to stand back and let them fix their own problem. It will make all of you happier and it's a good idea. That's a good idea.
