  • The Xbox One will be region-locked, a Microsoft spokesperson has reportedly confirmed with

  • Digital Trends. That means games and entertainment purchased in one country may not work in another.

  • The representative explained: "Similar to the movie and music industry, games must meet

  • country-specific regulatory guidelines before they are cleared for sale. We will continue

  • to work with our partners to follow these guidelines with Xbox One."

  • The Xbox 360 is region-locked, which applies to all digital content, although publishers

  • can decide whether or not their retail games are region free.

  • But region-locking is almost non-existent on the PlayStation 3, a console that answers

  • to the same country-specific regulatory guidelines.

  • Microsoft has been approached for further comment since, but has left the topic unclarified.

  • Another spokesperson told Polygon: "Regarding region blocking, Microsoft don't have anything

  • further to announce at this stage. We'll have more to share later."

  • The reveal of the Xbox One has been confusing to say the least. When Microsoft unveiled

  • its all-in-one entertainment device, it left us with more questions than answers regarding

  • topics like used games and Kinect 2.0.

  • With E3 just 14 days away, we should have more answers soon. Microsoft's E3 press conference
