How many feminine articles do we have? The answer is 1

The 2 masculine articles

The feminine article is LA

But why this L + apostrophe? L'

What is this? L' orologio

Remember? The clock L' ORLOGIO

Why do we say "L'orologio" and not "LO orologio" like LO zaino?

Ill show you!

Because l'Orologio has a vowel -O-rologio

and lo Zaino has a consonant -Z-aino

LO + consonant sounds good.

LO + vowel doesn't sound good, I don't like it at all!

So I put off the -O- and put an apostrophe. Great! Same thing with LA.

Why do I say L?arancia and not LA arancia?

Because in this case LA Matita we have a consonant - M-

In this case L'Arancia we have a vowel -A-

LA + consonant sounds good.

LA + vowel I don't like it, so I put an apostrophe

Great! It's easy!

Let's see the plurals

il tavolo singular becomes I TAVOLI

IL becomes I

lo zaino singular if I have many of these becomes GLI ZAINI

LO becomes GLI

l'orologio singular with the plural form becomes GLI OROLOGI

In this case there is no difference in the plural form between LO and L'

LA becomes LE in the plural forms

LA MATITA -> LE MATITE

The same with L'ARANCIA -> LE ARANCE

Doesn't make any difference between the plural forms, between LA and L'

Another thing

How do I know, we said that we have two masculine articles LO and IL

How do I recognise how to use IL or LO?

First of all, you have to learn words to get with articles!

For example Questo è -il- libro

Questa è -la- penna

It's easier!

Ok! Second thing, you have to remember that IL always goes with consonants

il Tavolo il Libro il Quaderno

LO can go both with consonants and vowels lo Zaino l(o)' Orologio

Remember that words that start with consonants and go with the article LO

can start with -S + consonant (lo -St-udente) -Z (lo -Z-aino) -Y (lo -Y-ogurt)

can start with -PS (lo -PS-icologo) the phsycologist

can start with -GN (lo -GN-omo) -PN

Another thing! These are definite articles ARTICOLI DETRMINATIVI

The third thing we've learnt is the negative form

For example Questa è la finestra? NO, NON È la finestra. Questa è la porta.

Is this the window? No, it is not the window. This is the door.

Questa è la sedia? NO, NON È la sedia. Questo è il tavolo.

So this is the negative form.

You just have to put NON in front of the verb

Questa è la matita? NO, NON È la matita. È la penna.

Questa è la matita? Sì. Questa è la matita
