Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hey I’m Tobin With Section 8 Snowsport Institute. One of my favorite drills for people who want to learn how to ski the steeps is called speiss. Now this drill is great for allowing you to turn with the lower body, it’s also great for balance and timing and coordination. Check it out. Speiss is a really fun exercise to try. It’s essentially just a quick hop turn. One thing that you want to focus on is to make sure you have a really strong pole plant to help stabilize your upper body, and try to focus on having the skis coming off the snow evenly when you hop. This will happen if you hop from the legs rather than with the upper body. If your ski tips are coming of the snow or your tails are coming off the snow, that’s a good s sign that you may be a little bit off balance. So master Speiss on flat terrain before you go ski the steeps and then you’ll no problems.
