Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles My name is Elisabeth Daude. I am a guide in my home town of Stockholm. I am proud to be a Stockholm resident and enjoy the privileges of living here. Stockholm is a dynamic city where you have access to almost everything. It is spacious, a city close to nature. You live the seasons, and every season has its own light. Like the grey light on a rainy day like today. Or the magical light of early July. Or the artificial light of candles in winter. Also stunning. The northern light can only be found here. A big city always consists of small neighbourhoods such as Södermalm. Södermalm accommodates some of the famous Swedish designers. They have their shops in the SoFo area. I like SoFo because it offers me variety. Every week I can come here and find a new place. This shop combines vintage and new items. It is one of the many shops in SoFo. It’s called Grandpa. This is low-key fashion with a twist. It makes this store very special. The people of Stockholm are quite fashion conscious. When trends start around the world... They first occur in New York, then in Stockholm and then in London. That says a lot. Södermalm is a trendy area, but that was not always the case. Not 100 years ago... when the area was extremely poor. In those days up to five families lived in these red houses. You could easily find 40 people there. We are now in Vitabergsparken, one of the many parks in Södermalm. Vita Bergen, the White Mountain, is really special. There are a few hundred of these buildings in Stockholm. They are mainly inhabited by artists. This house is from the mid-17th century, over 350 years old. We are in the garden of a Swedish artist called Big-Britt Almström. Let's go inside and see if she's busy working. I am a sculptor, trained here in Sweden. I work here and exhibit in Stockholm and the rest of the country. I am totally happy here. We are now at Södra Teatern or ‘in Södra’ as we often say. This is the centre of the cultural life on the southern island. There are seven different stages. Everybody fits in. From young and very hip... to people who come to listen to old-fashioned music. Everybody fits in and everyone is welcome. This is my secret treasure. Once you visit, you’ll never forget it. I hope I have shown you... the magic of Stockholm and Södermalm. And I hope you enjoyed it.
