Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Today on Caveman Keto Quick Tips I'm going to show you how to resurface a Cast Iron Skillet We're going to reseason it and the first step is to remove all this crud. I bought this one at a garage sale for two dollars and you can see it has a bunch of stuff on the rim you can barely read the text anymore and there's some Rust on the bottom of it The first step in redoing the cast iron is to strip off the original layers of crud. to do this we're going to use an Electrolysis setup First you need a Home Depot bucket or some kind of plastic container you need borax which is a soap from the grocery store copper wire, a battery charger, a piece of steel and a piece of wood Once you have all the parts assembled you're ready to put the rig together start by putting the positive ends on the steel rebar that's gonna get used up and but the negative end on the actual thing that you're trying to de-rust, in this case our cast iron pan actually I didn't need the wire, I just used two clamps I clamped the rebar directly to the side the bucket and clamped the pan directly to this piece of wood Then you want to add 4 to 5 tablespoons of the borax solution I've already done that here, mix it together, and you can see we're already starting to see rust removal The rust is now bubbling off of the cast iron I will check back and a few hours and see how the rust is going so I've just take the pan out of the Electrolysis setup, its 100% complete, took about 24 hours. Now you can see the moisture will start instantly re-rusting this untreated pan But don't worry about really minor surface rust like the stuff you can see in this. You notice we've cleared out all of the crud, you can now read all the writing on the pan Now we're going to start the next step in the process but that's the conclusion of the Electrolysis
