  • Welcome to How To Cook That, I am Ann Reardon and today

  • we are making a Candy Crush Jelly Saga cake complete with little jelly cubes which you

  • have to spread when you play the game.

  • I'll show you some gameplay at the end of this one and you can download the game using

  • the link below.

  • And as well as that today we've got a giveaway, I love doing giveaways.

  • I am giving away 2 ipad minis and 1 ipad, that's right.

  • And I'll tell you at the end how you can enter for your chance to win one of these.

  • Now first of all what we need to do to make this cake is make the actual cake of course.

  • I used one of my chocolate cake recipe baked in two 8-inch round tins and 1 and a half

  • times sponge cake recipe baked in 3 8-inch rounds.

  • For the frosting, we'll make some buttercream using butter or margarine and icing sugar.

  • And we'll mix that with some white chocolate ganache that we'll make using white chocolate

  • and cream.

  • And I'm just using compound chocolate for this one.

  • Just pour the cream over that chocolate and microwave it for 30 seconds and then stir

  • it well.

  • Now microwaves heat unevenly so you do need to stir it, you can't just add up the times

  • and put it in or it will burn.

  • Zap it for another 30 seconds and you'll see now it's just starting to soften, so stir

  • that through then 30 seconds more and we're nearly there.

  • Stir it again and then I want you to just give it 20 seconds more in the microwave and

  • then stir that until it's smooth and you can't see any more lumps in it.

  • Pour that into a flat container and then we'll spread it out thin and place that in the freezer

  • for about 30 minutes to chill.

  • If you're not in a rush you can just leave it in the bowl at room temperature overnight

  • instead.

  • Add the icing sugar to the margarine and mix that together until it is smooth then spoon

  • in the ganache.

  • See how thick that white chocolate ganache is now that it's chilled and then just put

  • it in and let it combine to make a beautiful creamy frosting.

  • Cut each of your cakes into two even layers and then spread some frosting onto your cake

  • board to stop the cake from slipping, then place your first layer of cake in the middle

  • and spread that with our creamy frosting, then add a layer of chocolate cake and continue

  • to layer up 6 layers and then cover the whole thing in frosting, smoothing out the sides

  • and flattening the top.

  • Now take a Twizzler and place it diagonally across the side of the cake and then add another

  • one right next to it.

  • And then continue to add more right around the cake in a rainbow of colours and this

  • is a very easy way to make a pretty cake.

  • For the top tier, use a bowl to cut a smaller circle.

  • Now if you have a smaller cake tin, you can of course bake it in that size, most of us

  • just have standard tins so this is a cheat's way of doing it.

  • Add that to the cake board and stack it up like before and cover that with frosting too.

  • And then place that in the fridge.

  • To support our top cake we use cake pop sticks.

  • Just poke it into the cake and then pull it out, taking note of where the top of the cake

  • was and trim it off to that length.

  • Then cut 2 more to match and poke them back into the cake and we do this so that the weight

  • of that top tier and the candy don't squash the bottom cake and make the whole thing crooked.

  • I managed to find candy at the store for some of these but I've had to improvise for the

  • other ones.

  • Take a chewy yellow candy and microwave it for about 10 seconds to soften it and it will

  • become quite mouldable like this.

  • Roll it into a ball and then squeeze it into a tear drop shape and then placing it on a

  • flat surface, squash the lower edge just using your fingers to make it look like the lemon

  • drops in the game.

  • For those green gum squares, roll a snake of green fondant and then just cut it into

  • little squares.

  • To make a few of our candies special and stripey either roll out or use a fondant extruder

  • to get a really thin snake of white.

  • And then just wrap it around some of your candies.

  • If you use a little bit of water on the white fondant it will make it stick.

  • To make the Colour Bomb I found these chocolate coated raspberries and I'm just going to add

  • little drops of chocolate and using that, attach sugar pearls on top.

  • Now you could use flat sprinkles or whatever you can get where you live and these look

  • really good on the cake.

  • I also couldn't find any blue Lifesavers so I'm just painting food colour onto these white

  • ones to make them the right colour.

  • For the jelly I'm using store bought jelly that is still set at room temperature so it

  • must have been made Agar which is perfect for this.

  • Just slice it into little cubes and you don't want to add the jelly cubes to the cake until

  • about 30 minutes before you are going to serve it and just pop the jelly on at the last minute.

  • Take the top layer and pop some pink frosting around the base there, cream in the middle

  • and blue around the top and the top of the cake.

  • This is just the same frosting with the white chocolate ganache and buttercream that we

  • made before, I've just used some of the leftover and added gel colours to it.

  • Flatten out the top and then smooth out the sides, taking off the excess frosting.

  • Then use your spatula to push any excess in towards the centre of the cake.

  • Warm your spatula in hot water, dry it off, and then run it around the cake to make it

  • really smooth and dreamy looking.

  • Use the leftover pink frosting to pipe stars around the top of the base layer and this

  • helps to even up the edges of the Twizzlers if they're not quite level there.

  • Then add your top layer into place on top of the cake.

  • To cover the silver board we just want to dampen it with a little bit of water and then

  • add a strip of pink fondant around the base of the cake.

  • Smooth it down using your hands and then trim off the excess and you can see that I see

  • I have the cake sitting on a bowl here I just find that makes it easier to turn the cake

  • when you're decorating it.

  • And now the fun part, adding the candy to the cake.

  • Arrange them around the base of the top tier and around the bottom tier there and then

  • on top add a whole jelly and a lollipop and then we'll add a marshmallow for the Puffler

  • and fill the gaps with more candy.

  • And there you have it, a beautiful colourful Candy Crush Jelly Saga cake.

  • Now for how to enter the competition to win one of these ... What you need to do is click

  • on the link below this video and there are 2 questions on the entry form.

  • You must get those questions correct otherwise your entry will not count and then you enter

  • your entry in and the best answer will be chosen so take a bit of time just deciding

  • what you're going to write there for that one.

  • Let's play the game.

  • Sweet!

  • So if we have a look here we have one of those giant chocolatey balls that we've made here.

  • If you combine that with anything, whatever colour you combine it with, it will get rid

  • of all that colour, how cool was that.

  • Now the object of the game, what we're trying to do is spread the jelly, the little jelly

  • cubes, everywhere so that there's nowhere that doesn't have it.

  • So looking for the blue squares, we want to try and get rid of them.

  • And the way that you do that is you drag other things across to make a line or a square so

  • that we can spread it.

  • So if you just move say this one here on the jelly, see how it didn't spread the jelly,

  • so it has to be going across onto the blue as well to have an effect.

  • So if we move this yellow one, perfect.

  • And by combining 4 in a row, we got a stripey one, and they've got special powers so we

  • can do extra things with that in a minute.

  • Let's just move that one up, get rid of a bit.

  • You only have so many moves, up in the top corner there it's telling how many moves I've

  • got left.

  • Fish are good because you can make them 3 in a row with their colour, they'll just bloop

  • bloop bloop bloop along.

  • Or if you can combine them with a special one then they do even more stuff but we don't

  • have it next to a special at the moment.

  • Ah, now it's next to a special one so let me show you.

  • Combine the fish with a special.

  • See that?

  • That's pretty cool.

  • So we're nearly there, we'll get rid of this little bit of jelly over here.

  • Now I haven't been playing this game for very long so I'm only on an early level.

  • Let me know in the comment what level you're up to.

  • There you go!

  • Done.

  • So there you have it, click on the link below to download the game and also don't forget

  • to click on the link to enter the competition and do remember the first 2 questions have

  • to be correct for your entry to count.

  • If you get 1 of those questions wrong we don't even read your answer.

  • You have to get the first 2 questions right and then from the ones who have those right

  • we read all the answers and choose the best one to win, or the best 3 because we've got

  • 3 prizes.
