It's something that's being talked about across the web from a major brand's Twitter account. - I think I know where this is coming from. - A major brand across Twitter. - Is it Wendy's? I saw it in my feed, 'cause somebody retweeted it. And then I saw a whole Facebook video about it where it's like, "Wendy's is roasting people!" And I was like, "Good for Wendy's." - I was reading a lot of the tweets and stuff. And I was like, "Dang, Wendy's." - I've seen stuff with Wendy's talking smack with-- There was like a Burger King. - I heard that they're replying to people that tweet them mean things. They're just roasting the eff out of them in response, and I love that. - (FBE) Here is one of their Twitter exchanges that happened around two weeks ago. - Okay. "Our beef is way too cool to ever be frozen." - "Your beef is frozen. We all know it. Y'all know we laugh at your slogan, 'Fresh, never frozen,' right, like you're really a joke." Oh jeez. I can't imagine caring that much about a fast food chain. - And then Wendy's: "Sorry to hear you think that. But you're wrong. We've only ever used fresh beef since we were founded in 1969." - This is a thing? This is a beef? (chuckles) See what I did there? - (FBE) And then this happened. - "So you deliver it raw on a hot truck?" "Where do you store cold things that aren't frozen?" - "Y'all should give up. McDonald's got you guys beat with dope-ass breakfast." Ohh, snap. "You don't have to bring them into this just because you forgot refrigerators existed..." (quiet gasp) They're getting a little bit spicy there. Okay. - (chuckling) Oh shit. Oh my god. Savage Wendy. - The fact that Wendy's is still responding, that's what's so brilliant about it. - I love it. I love it. And clearly 23,000 other people also like it. - That's like not great for a company to do, I feel like. But that's funny. - It's a good, healthy amount of sass. Like, I want to now go to Wendy's and purchase something from them, 'cause you have personality, and I appreciate that. - (FBE) So here are some more tweets from the account recently. - "Waiting for the Wendy's roast to happen to me." "Turn your hat around. You aren't Bart Simpson, and it isn't 1997." - Damn! (giggles) - (laughs) I love that. - Oh, so it's like becoming a thing. Like, Wendy's is roasting people. - I like myself a good sassy brand Twitter. - Dude, they're, like, being mean. I love it. I want them to roast me. - As we know, controversy sells these days. So I kinda get it. - I haven't seen anything like this before, and I think they realize that it was getting attention. So they just kept doing it. - "What should my Tinder bio say?" "Swipe left." (laughing) - Ho-ho, that one's my favorite. - It's definitely not an out-of-date person doing it. It's someone that is like, "Oh, it's my time to shine. I'm gonna roast everyone." - This is great. I'm gonna follow them after this. I'm not even kidding. I'm genuinely gonna-- I'm following them right now. - The account is @WendysSucks. - The Pepe meme. (laughs) - (amused) Pepe has the pigtails! That's beautiful. - "Are your burgers even beef? Are your fries even potatoes?" "So you made a Twitter account, just for this, and that was the best you came up with? The answer to both is yes." (giggles) I love the internet. There's a reason why I live on the internet. God bless you. - "How much does a Big Mac cost?" "Your dignity." (laughing) - HA! Okay, that's good. That's clever. - What I want to see is McDonald's jump in on this now. - It's a little petty. I wish they could be that funny without taking down anyone else. - I'm all for one love and people getting along, but that's just like a healthy dose of just, you know, healthy competition. - "What's your favorite thing about McDonald's?" "The exit." Yes! And that was just three hours ago. (sharp breath) They're killing the game! - "What should I get from McDonald's?" "Directions to the nearest Wendy's." Roasted. - Oh! I'm so torn. Comedically it's great. But then it's like mean. - I hope this person is getting paid a lot. They're blowing Wendy's up. I want Wendy's now. - Can you imagine I get to shit-talk on a corporate account to 1.2 million people every day and get paid for it? That's amazing. - "My parents got me a gift card to Burger King. What should I do?" "THROW IT ON THE GROUND!" (giggles) - With the GIF and all. I love them. - "If you don't reply to this, I'm getting Burger King." "Don't do that to yourself." See, they just care. They care about your well-being, you know? They don't want you to have Burger King. - Aw, poor Burger King. They're getting bullied. - If I was Burger King and I saw these tweets, I'd be like, "All right, let's start some Twitter beef." I would start a war. - I would not be surprised if other companies start trying to do the same thing. Like, I could see it being a trend. - "I'm going to Burger King." I would love to have a sassy Wendy's mommy. That's a sentence I didn't think I would be saying today, but okay. - "I hate your food." "Then why are you taking time to tweet us?" Thanks for clicking them." - That seems like a YouTuber tweet, like a troll being like, "I hate your videos." "Then why are you tweeting at me?" I'm sure I've tweeted that exact tweet in my life. This is a multi-million-dollar company tweeting like this. That's awesome. - More brands should be like that. I really enjoyed most of those tweets. - The whole "sips tea, showing shade's" kind of trendy right now. So I mean, clearly it's working. It even got me to go to their Twitter account. - In some ways, this is a good marketing strategy. I think the little tongue-in-cheek, cheeky references and jokes to the followers, I think that's super funny. I don't think in any situation it's ever a good idea to talk shit about other people or to talk badly about your competitors. - It's a really, really smart strategy, 'cause it's grabbing the attention of young people, which is the demographic that people have a really, really hard time pigeonholing. It's brilliant. And if I ever own a fast food chain, I will take notes. - We're in this time where social media is the thing and people are doing things to get attention. You gotta create moments. And I feel like they're creating a moment where they're just sassing the eff out of everyone, and it's great. - (FBE) Finally, you use the internet as a big part of your career. And now brands are using it to be more personable. What advice do you have when big companies want to try to be personable with people? - Honestly, you just gotta go for the funny route. The internet is all about memes. - Just being a little sassy, being real, and just interacting with people and just having fun with it. - Ride that fine line between being mean and being funny, 'cause there's definitely an in-between. You don't have to be mean to be funny. - Give actual responses, and look for people who are talking about something that you're targeting. Reach out to people who might not be your customers already and get some new customers. - Don't be generic. It's not personal at all. When you get someone like Wendy's who takes the time to do their math homework, like, this isn't just personable tweets. This is next-level stuff. - It's about being less robotic. I don't want to just be, "Promo, promo. This is what I got going on. Watch my video." I want to be like a real person, 'cause people connect with people. There has to be a personality behind your brand.
