  • Athlete's foot is a fungal infection of our skin. Fungus normally lives on our skin, but

  • in certain environments, fungus can flourish. Athlete's foot is also contagious, so you

  • can be exposed to the fungus and, as a result, develop athlete's foot.

  • What are the signs and symptoms? Moisture between the toes can commonly lead to athlete's

  • foot. It usually appears as wet and moist area with dry, scaling skin around the periphery.

  • Athlete's foot can also appear as red and scaling, particularly on the bottom of the

  • foot, and can take on a moccasin distribution.

  • Athlete's foot is typically very itchy and uncomfortable. You may develop small blisters

  • in the area.

  • Athlete's foot can be a serious condition. The fungus changes the environment of your

  • skin, decreasing your good bacteria and increasing your bad bacteria. This can lead to a serious

  • bacterial infection.

  • If you have diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or have a compromised immune system,

  • seek medical attention immediately.
