Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles I actually started working in the medical office with my mom when I was like 13 so I was definitely in the medical field by that point I was just like you know kind of making copies and then from that point up I got older I was at the front desk and then I would work with the doctors so I I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field Doing research and with Dr. Sherman and volunteering in a vision therapy clinic for three years I kind of saw that the different specialties that optometry had and I didn't have to sit there and do one or two for the rest of my life Miss Jennifer Crossdale What I didn't know when I started optometry school was the fact that we are actually able to diagnose systemic diseases that I had absolutely no idea about and that was another thing that kind of really made me love the field that much more In my first year it was definitely a very big transition from undergrad to a grad school The studying was very different for me I was so used to the kind of last minute night before and that didn't work here The workload is difficult but it was very manageable I was able to kind of still have my social life which was important for me I've met great people along the way I'm very close with a few of them and I know that after graduation we're still going to keep in touch I think the fact that SUNY is a small school compared to other ones kind of allows for that to be possible The new equipment that we got has definitely been been a big thing here at SUNY I've learned how to use the new technology which is great I am from New York I was born and raised here but I never really spent much time in the city because I always told myself oh I'll get to it i'm from here i'll go look at the the places the touristy places and things like and I'm used to the campus life where you come out at night from the library and it's quiet I wouldn't hear anything and I came out and it was the lights and being in the heart of the city it's just incredible I definitely recommend optometry for my personal view on it and my personal experience it's been a great road it's been tough challenging but it's definitely rewarding
