What? - No way. What is that? - (anchor) Customers crowd the counter demanding the Szechuan dipping sauce for their Mcnuggets. Outside, hundreds more are lining up. - You gotta be kidding me. - Oh yeah, they took that away and they brought it back, I think. - (anchor) Watch as one guy snatches some right off the counter. - Oh my goodness. - This is crazy. - (chanting) Make more sauce! Make more sauce! - That is nuts. What's happening in this world? - Where can I get some of that Szechuan sauce, 'cause it's probably hallucinogenic. - (car horns) - Unbelievable. - That's gotta be good stuff. - I'd never seen such a big crowd. - What? Come on. - Nobody is gonna be that crazy about a stupid Szechuan sauce. Really? - Crazy how people go crazy for food. - We want sauce. We want sauce. - Is that real? I mean, what is going on? - Maybe it has some sort of underground connotation. - (FBE) This actually all started because of a TV show. - And which one was that? - (FBE) So the next clip we're gonna show you is from that show many say started the Szechuan sauce craze. - Well, let's see it. - Those are the Simpsons? - Yeah, I'd like to get a ten piece Mcnugget and a bunch of the Szechuan sauce. In 1998, they had this promotion for the Disney film Mulan where they... - I already know what show this is. - Called Szechuan sauce and it's delicious and they got rid of it and now it's gone. I never saw that one. - (FBE) We'll discuss the show a little more shortly, but after seeing the massive demand for the sauce from customers, McDonald's recently decided to launch the sauce again. This time in all stores across the country and we actually have it for you here to try. - You're kidding! - No way. - Oh, well. When they pulled it, they made it even greater. It's like you have a little taste of heaven and then you pull it away. - No. - Hell to the no. It was awful. - No, but that's me though. Maybe the people that are younger and they just love that stuff. - I think it was a little nuts that there were that many people in line for the sauce. We did crazy things for the Beatles and all that, so it's the same kind of idea, I guess. - (FBE) So, going back to Rick and Morty, it's a show that's been around since 2013 that has gained a real cult following. What do you think about the fact that a TV show could cause a craze like this over a condiment? - It's crazy. - It doesn't surprise me that you can go absolutely spit-faced crazy over something as silly as Szechuan sauce. - I'm not really surprised. There's a lot of this attention to these social media, our devices, and it kind of rules our lives. - They've got enough viewers, it's no different than-- what is it? You can go to your local market and get Szechuan sauce. - That's up to people. I can't tell people where to go or what to eat. I would be kind of leery, because it tastes like there's a lot of sugar in there. - It's a good sauce. I mean, it's got a nice flavor. I'd recommend it to people who go to McDonald's.
