Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Tainan retains a considerable number of Japanese-era buildings. Around the Cang Jin Yard is located another cluster of Japanese-style buildings. They were dormitories of Tainan Prefecture Agricultural Experiment Farm. They have been well preserved. Take a closer look, and you will find yourself immersed in the Japanese atmosphere. It feels like I'm confused with time and space because I'm in Japan, no? Well, this place is organized by Tainan City Government for Japanese culture exchange. So not only can you come here to view these beautiful traditional Japanese-styled buildings, you can also come here to experience the Japanese culture. Today I am here at this little shop, to learn how to brew my own coffee with the owner Mr Lin. Can you introduce these coffee beans to me and also these instruments on the table? Ok, let's start with our main characters today. These are our coffee beans This one is our Ethiopian sun-dried beans. The one on the left is our store's special mixed beans. Let's get ready to brew our coffee. First, let's take our bottle of hot water and clean our filter and coffee container. Next let's pour our coffee powder evenly into the filter. Then, we want to pour water gently down. Ok, gently pour water down the middle. Wow, this is the first time I've professionally brewed my own coffee and I'm so excited to try some. First I would pour my coffee into this tall cup and then wash it out to the second cup. And now this cup is for smelling the scent. So you feel relaxed and it's a getting-ready step for the second coffee-tasting part. And now I'm going to try my coffee. It's actually sweeter than I thought and there's a flowery scent to it. I actually taste toffee candy also. Now I'm here to experience wearing a Yukata, Hello, I'm Tong. Hello. 你好 Hello. 你好 How do I address you? I'm Miss Chu. Ok, so today I'm here to experience wearing a Yukata. Yukata? All our Yukata for women are here on display. You can choose one that you like. I'm going to choose this one because the Sakura on it is most Japanese. It's actually really tight right now and I have to hold my breath almost. It's like those old Renaissance British corset that Pocahontas wore. Japanese do this a lot. What is the purpose of whisking? So that the powder can spread. Ok, so it spreads more evenly. Exactly. And I would hand you the side that I think is most beautiful. Here the past is intertwined with the present and just like at Cang Jin Yard where used wood is given a new life and reborn. Walking in the East District, I feel like a lot of effort is put into restoring these old buildings and historical monuments. Now only the appearance is changed, but you can really feel the amazing atmosphere that this place is given new potential and new values, and that's one of the most attractive things about Tainan. So find time to come here, you'll definitely enjoy it and cherish the good and joy in the little things.
