No swearing, no sex, no violence. Only positivity!! Alright! I bet today's tune is definitely gonna strike a chord with all the young hearts out there 'cos it was definitely my teenage reflection. Kind of the song that makes you wanna sing your heart out to [Ah ah ah ah ah…] And if you're a little bit older, it's totally okay. As long as you embrace a young heart like me it's… good. Okay, so this is Simple Plan's song back in 2004 “Welcome To My Life” [Music] When you're 17 or 18, you're young, you're sort of caught up in between adulthood and childhood. Sometimes people tell you to grow up while other times they tell you to keep out of grown-up's business. And you're confused. You're bewildered. You're kind of caught up in between, and that's sucks! Do you want me to be a kid or do you want me to be a grown up? And when you're young, the mind is so sensitive. It's kind of like how kid's taste buds are much more sensitive in various ways compared to the adult. So when kids are eating and they say something's spicy. That's spicy! And the parent keeps telling them, “ No, it's not.” No! Take it from the kid. It is spicy. You just don't feel it. [Oh...] Parents… my advice... just feed your kids candy. That'll make everybody happy including your dentist. So this song is about that teenage angst you get when you're in middle school or high school where everything doesn't seem right. So let's sing it out, and hear out the lyrics. Do you ever feel like breaking down Do you ever feel out of place Like somehow you just don't belong And no one understands you Do you ever want to run away Do you lock yourself in your room With the radio on turned up so loud that no one hears you screaming No you don't know what it's like When nothing feels alright You don't know what it's like to be like me To be hurt To feel lost To be left out in the dark To be kicked when you're down To feel like you've been pushed around To be on the edge of breaking down And no one's there to save you No you don't know what it's like Welcome to my life Okay, that's the song. I hope you like it. Very emo, right? No, not Elmo… emo! There's nothing wrong about being emo. You know we've all been through that when we were kids, when we were young. And this is the part where we break down the lyrics and teach you some or the related phrases and vocabulary. So today's phrases and vocabulary are all emotion-related. So here it goes. [Music] The first phrase, “break down,” means fail or collapse. The first phrase, “break down,” means fail or collapse. Do you ever feel like breaking down? “breakdown” is a noun. “breakdown” is a noun. I had a nervous breakdown. Another phrase, “out of place” What does “out of place” mean? Not comfortable in or suitable for a certain situation occasion. Do you ever feel out of place? I feel out of place in class. Or... His comment was really out of place. out of place Alright, next! [Music] Okay, here we need to take a look at “left out” What does “left out” mean? If somebody feels left out he or she is sad because she or he is not included in a group of activity. left out left out For example, I feel left out at school. left out [Music] “on the edge of” on the edge of sth The lyrics, "On the edge of breaking down" The lyrics, "On the edge of breaking down" I'm on the edge of losing my temper. I'm on the edge of freaking out. I'm on the edge of bursting into tears. [burst into tears…] Next! [Music] “desperate” To need or want something extremely much. Or, showing a hopeless sense. So it's like you want something extremely much and feel you have no hope that you are ready to do anything to change the situation you are in. The lyrics, "Are you desperate to find sth more before your life is over." The lyrics, "Are you desperate to find sth more before your life is over." We all desperate to live a more meaningful life especially when we are young… full of dreams… longing. Say no more. I understand. Okay, and that's the song for today. Simple Plan's “Welcome To My Life” And I bet it spoke your mind in some way. I hope you like it. Just one more thing, I just want you to know that it's okay to be alone. And loneliness sometimes is just a part of life. It's just a part of growing up. Sometime you feel alone, you feel isolated, you feel fragile, you feel afraid. But you just gotta keep in mind that time like these, they come and go. It's just like daytime and nighttime, how they circulate. And you gotta know that there are always people out there who love you. I used to talk to the sky when I felt lonely. That was my thing when I was in high school. You can try it if you want. And there are very important lessons that you can actually take away from these specific moments, and only these moments alone. So when you're lonely, when you feel isolated, when you feel like on the edge of breaking down. Just try to think what can you take away from this 'cos it won't last forever. It's just a part of life. Maybe just even a dot in life. It's not the entire picture. Okay? Don't feel lonely. I'm always here with you guys. See you guys next week! [Music]
