hello everybody you would not believe who is sitting here right next to me in
this chair I'll give you three seconds to guess three two one nice to meet you
all yes could you introduce yourself please
my name is Lucy and I run the channel of English with Lucy and actually
Daniel was one of the first ever people to say
"I like your video". yes I think I didn't even say that exactly. I think you said "You're gonna be a star"
Yes. I think I said something like I think I saw your second video and
I was like if you keep this up you're going to be a star. That was really important to me back then.
yeah I mean I'm happy because I was right you are definitely a star now you did keep it up
Well, it's grown. oh my god you what I didn't predict was that you were going to
be you know 20 times bigger star than I am and in such little time I figured you
would get you know past me but you might take a while and oh you're just like
boom it's like a rocket. "Making me blush! I didn't expect it." okay so you teach English also...
what's the difference I teach only in English yeah and I also I take I teach
with a lot of takes Daniel just sits in front of a camera, explains, and boom he's done. I'm sort of surprised
you'd even agreed to do this right here because I know with your production
values I mean I'm just here like let me hold my phone out let's do this that's
the reason why I do it because like I don't have that much time for YouTube so
I just kind of you know if it takes 20 minutes to film and then another 40
minutes to edit I'm done that's why I love about YouTube there are so many
different you can have exactly what you want because there's somebody for everyone
yeah. okay so how do you feel about being a
star. I don't consider myself a star. we were just talking and Daniel gets recognized way more than I do
no you get recognized like once in two weeks. I get recognized once a month. In Madrid I've been recognized more. it's
very very weird how I feel I like it yeah but they put they walk up to you
and they say Lucy they come to me and they say are you Daniel well from the
internet I say yes from the internet usually from Arizona but the internet
also I've spent a lot of time there and you used to live in Madrid I did I did
Erasmus in Madrid I went to university that great yeah and it was amazing and I
haven't been better yeah it just keeps getting better
it really is growing in such a lovely way and you said earlier that you missed
something specific and do I mind doing that with you what is it that you missed
about Madrid where we are right now now Latino Sundays it's a great thing about
Madrid here there's lots of people you get to sit outside in the Sun have a bit
have some fat bus and just spend the whole Sunday it ends a seven if you want
it then that's ugly well yeah that's true yeah you can get
tipsy enough between now and 7:00
Seleucia how's your lunch
we had a table they pinched oh so it was pretty good yeah I wanted to ask you
about a fun event that I remember from from several months ago you were on the
BBC yes I was BBC Radio 4 okay so this is pretty big
time you don't know what it is it's like them my traditional radio station but
you're a Current Affair apparently I was
the girl teaching English from her bedroom and so they asked you to be on
the BBC yeah and you told kind of an anecdote that maybe they didn't like
very much penis actually trying to say Tina I don't know that word no it's okay
it's okay I think I can probably look for it in a word reference later
pornhub he wanted to say what peanut peanuts yeah every time Spanish people
asked me like Daniel you must be making this whole pronunciation pronunciation
thing up it can't be that important I mentioned like the difference in Spanish
between pee and penny and they're like oh yeah pain and Penny never thought
about that but innocent peanuts and pretty important so
I told this anecdote and they M all the producers were crazy behind the scenes
like
I'm imagining you're like in a in a glass box with a microphone they've got
some guy behind behind another glass box be like cut cut go to commercial and
what happened after that
Reverend oh good and he told me not to worry but and after that I guess they
apologized on air
so do you think you're banned from the BBC for life now next time
got like the before inviting you see back to the BBC no dirty anecdotes
that's good have you been on other things in the media enough TV stuff
I think TV I put you I think maybe everyone has to be in the right position
and everything else is perfect lighting and everything from radio voice is
perfect lighting yeah radar uses a table you have
microphones in quick check
great hold us they say I have a face you have a Facebook TV also are you too
yes yes everyone has a face for YouTube even Daniel Welch of the Romantic Obata
related wanna anyway we're gonna go find some more
beer yes more beer awesome how do the people
so Lizzie used to live here in Madrid I did I lived here for eight months
okay and so you love Spain I adore Spain I always say that England
is the place where I live yes we all love Spain and what is it
that you love about Spain specifically I know that everyone is so willing to take
a break the toys and work everyone I suppose to have a really good
time they appreciate the food they appreciate having a drink but not
getting drunk I think that's very important having a drink but not getting
drunk is yeah really important for us American and British people because in
our culture it's like I'm just going to drink until I'm asleep on a corner or
you know underneath a police car or Wiggum Linux yeah wake up the next
morning with no pants on and don't know what happened and try to remember and
it's all just embarrassing and disgusting and something that took me a
very long time to get used to drinking without going overboard
yeah and knowing when to stop and knowing how to get up to that like a
peak and then just maintaining it yeah so where are we going now we are going
to LA yes I never P is of course yes can you tell us something about PS well I
used to live in an to Martine and it's known to be a little bit dangerous yeah
I was here a few months ago and I noticed there's a lot of African like
restaurants there didn't used to be there's a closet called Nelson Mandela
now he's mad I don't know what it was called before it was not Nelson Mandela
and yeah it's just kind of gone in in the African direction it used to be more
kind of Indian Pakistani I think yeah and before then I was kind of Moroccan
it's just like in a working class slash immigrant neighborhood yeah
oh yeah it's got charm so we're gonna go down here and you know have a couple bar
drinks without getting drunk yes we're gonna maintain our good vibe yes we're
going to maintain sobriety it's gonna be awesome
what's the bride's you know like merriness yes reasonable level of
sobriety yes awesome all right so we'll talk later
okay so I guess this is our grand finale there has been a great day
we're here in the Lapierre's it's a nice place I wanted to ask you about Spanish
how's your Spanish it's kind of difficult coming back to Madrid and yes
I didn't realize how much I would forget it kind of took me a little bit of time
to get back into it yeah I know I'm really really enjoyed
speaking Spanish yeah the other day on a live video they asked me what my
favorite Spanish word was and I just came up with some time off did you ask
me I and what did I say which is also my favorite Spanish word but it's enjoying
place where independent women they're independent or nits or wrinkle being
like a duck-billed platypus at the way you see some sort of strange animal and
independent Amenti is in the present way but it's got so many empty isn't it yeah
it's just got way too many syllables oh cool so did you find Spanish difficult
when you first moved here so I lived I went and did a language course in
Seville and I'd only learnt Spanish at school and I arrived in Seville and I
thought this is in Spanish lastly learning handles yeah and then I
fell in love with a guy from Seville and I was with him for a long time and that
really improved my Spanish yeah jokes and to socialize the love thing always
works yeah like my language learning has just improved exponentially because of
love and yeah you want to force yourself to be able to communicate with them and
their friends my family do you find it easy to socialize in Spanish no I do
yeah at the beginning I think it took me about two or three years do you feel
that you're an extrovert or introvert you're an extrovert okay I'm an
introvert ie yes I'm an introvert who's really good
at faking bnx being an extrovert I fool everybody but yeah like in my heart I
would just rather be at home not talking to anybody I think I'm getting more and
more introverted as the years go by I'm definitely an extrovert okay so for me
like in Spanish a lot of times the Spanish conversation is just like eleven
people all talking at the same time and for me it's just like you know I do not
have to participate here I always like to have a cup
anecdotes I know really really work quickly like you said yeah on me do you
like attention well I like attention when it's deserved
and I like negative attention you know I'm not sure that I like attention well
yeah I like contribution and making interesting things the attention thing
is kind of secondary that I've gotten used to
how do you feel about being famous on YouTube then I call myself famous
because it's such a niche market
learning gauge but it's very interesting interesting experience if you'd have
told me two years ago I'd be
never believed you but I'm loving great where can people find more from
you they wanna you can English with Lucy I'll put this right here on the screen
Oh in the middle of here you can look for English with Lucy
you only have YouTube so far no blog or anything I know well I need to finish
this in a blogger I've started it would you like to talk about my book really
quick oh yeah I've got Janine Janine is my designer she's in the Philippines she
does pretty good work the cover was done by someone else but yeah he started the
book yeah did you enjoy what you read yeah
Oh God don't even get into that
great I am actually really excited to finish it okay I'm glad that you're
enjoying what you've read so far the part was me kissing that one girl just
tends to stick in everybody's mind it's stuck in my mind too that's why I wrote
it in a book I would love to have loved to just left her out of this book but
she had to be there but she had to be there because because the rest of it
just wouldn't make sense without that one girl I know how love works Oh
so anyway I'm a little bit embarrassed I wish you had said something else but
it's okay I forgive you because your English with Lucy and I'm really happy
that you're here thank you with me in Madrid London I always try
and I'm happy that Lucy makes time for me thank you very much English with Lucy

right well I'll put a link to that too and hopefully we'll follow you they will
watch your videos they will sponsor you on patreon no anymore I don't know okay
whatever yeah watch the videos they're great they
have all of the production that I don't do she does for me just like multiple
takes cuts good stuff lighting lighting
real cameras you know a tripod rather than just the thing shaking like this
all the time anyway that's that I hope you have a
great day thank you too English with Lucy for being on my channel and I'll
see you very soon check me out at expat Madrid calm and Madrid English dot Nets
