  • Today, I'm going to tell you the differences between must and have to.

  • Both must and have to talk about obligations.

    must 跟 have to 兩者都涉及了義務

  • However!

  • Now, we use have to when we talk about obligations others decide for us.

    當我們談論他人施予我們的責任時,我們會用have to

  • It's a law or a rule, so it cannot be changed.

    這可能是法律或是規範,所以是不能被改變的

  • For example, at BBC, we have to show our passes to enter the building.

    例如:在 BBC,我們必須要秀出通行證才能進入大樓

  • This is a rule decided by the BBC.

    這是 BBC 所訂出的規則

  • On the other hand, we use must when we talk about obligations we decide for ourselves or others.

    而當我們給自己或給他人賦予的責任,我們會用 must

  • For example, my boss might say to me "You must be more organized."

    例如:我老闆可能對我說「你要更有條理一點」

  • Or, I might say to myself "I must exercise more often."

    或是,我可能對自己說「我要更常運動」
