So next up, we have the wedge. Now wedges are great because they give you
height, but they're also a lot more comfortable than wearing stilettos, and they're also a
little dressier than flats, so they kind of hit that nice balance.
I think the key words for wedges are that they are playful, and that they are fun. And
because they're so fun, I like to pair my wedges with brightly-coloured things. You
know, so things like sundresses, cute skirts, printed shorts - all these work well with
wedges. So I've hence chosen these very brightly-coloured
shorts to bring out that sense of fun and playfulness.
I would generally avoid wearing wedges to work because they could make you seem a little
less professional than I'm sure you'd like to have your boss think you are!
So for that, I'd go with our next type of shoe.
High heels come in various shapes and diameters, but today we're going to talk about my favourite
one, the stiletto. So me and the stiletto, we have a love-hate
relationship because they look great, but they hurt like HELL. And the word, 'stiletto'
actually comes from a long, slender dagger meant for stabbing purposes - so the name's
not really far off! Stilettos I like for their two main keywords
- that is, they are dressy and sexy, and can elevate almost any outfit immediately.
So the most obvious choice for a stiletto pairing is for a party dress like that, but
I prefer a more modern and low-key approach. Stilettos also work well with things like
T-shirts and jeans, for example. Just be sure to roll up the hem of your jeans to show off
the beauty of the heels, and to draw the eye and the focus to that part of the outfit.
Now with stilettos, also think about proportions in relation to your figure. For example, if
you have smaller limbs, then maybe a very thin stiletto is very flattering. But if your
ankles and your calves are a little bit thicker, you might want to go with a chunkier heel.
We'll talk more about pairing your body type to the right shoe in another episode.
