Hello Youtube, BlueMatona here bringing you this episode of Game Guides where I will be
talking about which roman faction is the best to play as in Rome: Total War.
For those of you familiar with the game, players have the option of picking either the Julii,
colored red, the Brutii, colored green, or the Scipii, colored blue.
So let's start with the Julii.
Like the other two Roman factions, the Julii start the campaign with two provinces, Arretium
and Ariminum.
Their immediate enemies are going to be to the North, mainly the Gauls.
As the game progresses, the Julii will find themselves in conflict with Germanic and Briton
as well.
While the Julii can also expand south into Sicily and Africa, west into Spain, and East
into eastern Europe, the main focus of a Julii campaign will definitely be taking out the
nations to the North.
While this does provide an advantage over the other roman factions since they will not
be facing phalanx pikemen or elephants, at least not in the early game, one major downside
to the Julii is that the provinces around them are very poor and will not provide much
in the way of buildings or money.
Next we have the Brutii.
These green-coated romans start off with two cities as well, Tarentum and Croton.
They also have the best starting position in the game as they are poised to immediately
move east into greece and macedon which are the richest provinces in the world, aside
from Italy, and also have the ability to move south and take the provinces in Sicily which
will cut off the Scipii from expanding into Africa.
00:01:48,820 --> 00:01:51,950 The Brutii will have to fight hard to take these prinvinces, however, as the powerful
armies of Greece and Macedon are a force to be reckoned with.
The Brutii also have access to some of the best mercenaries in the game, including the
Cretan Archers, and can capture a lot of the world wonders early in the game, which will
provide the player with huge bonuses.
Finally we have the Scipii, which start in the South and West of Italy.
They start off with the provinces of Capua and Messana and are immediately poised to
advance through Sicily and into north Africa.
Their main enemy will be the strong cartheginian armies, and as the game goes on, Egypt and
Spain as well.
While some provinces in north africa are incredibly wealthy, many are not, and the elephant armies
of carthage poise a huge threat in the early game before the player can train archers and
other units that can defeat them.
So while all three Roman factions have their strengths and weaknesses, it is clear that
the Brutii are the best to play as.
The economic powerhouse of Greece, coupled with an opportunity to expand into Africa
and capture many world wonders, gives the Brutii a clear edge over the other two Roman
factions.
