Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hi Bob the Canadian here. It's definitely spring in Canada. The first day of spring was about a month ago, but today is the first day where it really feels like spring. So I thought this would be a good time to do an English video to help you learn some words and phrases about the season of spring. Well hey welcome to this video where I'm going to help you learn some English words and phrases about the season of spring. It's definitely spring here in Canada, but before we get started if this is your first time here don't forget to click the subscribe button below and the bell icon so that you can know when I put out a new video, and give me a thumbs up if this video's helping you learn English. Well it's definitely spring here in Canada. You can see that the lawn behind me is green and I'm just gonna take you on a little tour and show you some of the things that we would call the first signs of spring. You've probably noticed already that I'm dressed differently than I normally am when I make a video because it's spring and it's so warm out here, instead of wearing my spring jacket I actually ended up taking it off. I'm currently wearing a short sleeved shirt. I'm wearing a t-shirt. And I have my hat because it's quite bright out here and I like the front part here to protect me from the sun. And I have my sunglasses with just in case as well. So one of the things you'll see at springtime is people will start to wear different clothes. I'm still wearing pants. I haven't started to wear shorts, but it's definitely warm enough that I can come outside in just a t-shirt. I can have a short sleeved shirt on and I'm very, very warm actually. It's almost like summer. It's kind of funny to do a video about spring when it's almost like summer. One other thing you'll also notice is people start to open the windows on their houses when it gets warm enough. It's really nice that winter is over because we've had the house closed up for so long. It's nice that we can open our windows and we can get some fresh spring air kind of blowing through the house a little bit just to kind of freshen things up a bit. I think I should clean this window though. I should do a little bit of spring cleaning. So we don't quite have leaves on the trees yet, but we do have what we call buds. So if I bring this close to the camera you can see that we have these little buds here and as spring goes on these will eventually open up and this tree will be totally full of leaves. I'm looking forward to that because once the tree has leaves we'll have a little bit of shade on the ground. So trees when they get buds is definitely another sure sign that spring is here. This tree here still has buds but eventually it will have blossoms. So blossoms are small flowers that some kinds of trees have in the spring. We're going to have to wait a couple weeks though before we can see that happen, but this tree will eventually, the buds will turn into blossoms and then it will also start to grow leaves. So blossoms are another sign of spring, we're just not far enough into spring yet to see them. So another thing that happens in the spring is we start to see a lot more birds. And the birds start to sing. I'm actually trying to sneak up right now on a robin. There's a robin in this tree over here. I don't know if you can see him. He's up there on that branch. Hello Mister Robin! And now he has flown to another branch. So another sign that spring is here, birds come back and birds start to chirp and birds start to sing. Another cool sign of spring is some of the early flowers start to grow. These are daffodils. Over here we actually have some tulips that are starting to come up. I'm gonna walk out here just to give you a little peek. They're kind of hard to see, but at this point in the spring, it's really neat to see some of the early flowers start to push their way out of the ground. They start to grow and eventually they bloom and we see a nice spring flower. So, so I looked all over the farm and I could only find this daffodil that's close to blooming, but I couldn't actually find any flowers for you. Maybe in a couple weeks. Another thing that we do in the spring, and that's definitely a sign of spring, is we do spring cleanup. Because the winter is so harsh it blows a lot of branches off of trees and when we go out in our yards in Canada in the spring we have to do a little bit of yard work. Yard work is when you clean up your yard. You tidy things up a bit. We do this especially after the winter. So you can see here I gotta clean up some sticks. There's this old pail that came from somewhere, I don't know where it came from, but I definitely have some yard clean up to do today or maybe throughout the week ahead. So you can't actually see these 'cuz they're really little but, there's all tiny insects or bugs just kind of in the air here. They're very, very small, and it's, it's another thing that we see in the spring. So today's a really nice day but that isn't always the case. Usually in the spring it rains a lot so we end up with a lot of puddles. We call these mud puddles and we end up with a lot of mud. So if you look down here, let me see if I can get that in the shot, there's a lot of mud. Just brown soil and dirt that's gotten really, really wet. So it's very muddy and it's very wet out here in the spring. Here's some, some real mud. I'll probably sink in when I walk on it. Ah, it's not actually too bad. In fact sometimes it rains so much that the river floods. So if you look out this way, normally the bank of the river is somewhere around there, but because we've gotten so much rain the river has jumped it's bank and it has flooded a little bit. It's actually a little bit too wet right now, but another thing we have to do in the spring is we have to start to mow our lawns. So, this in front of me is a riding lawn mower. So this is a lawnmower that you can sit on to mow your lawn. So that's the push mower. It's obviously a little more work to use than a riding mower, but you can see that we have a riding mower or garden tractor and a push mower. I guess you could just call it a lawnmower that's the general term. They're both lawnmowers, but this is a push mower, this is a riding mower. If you just listen for a bit you can hear a few birds singing, or cars going by, one of the two. So the other cool thing about spring is people start to drive their motorcycles. So we have somebody coming by here right now let's wave. He did wave back. Maybe you didn't see it but we definitely see nicer cars, motorcycles, and boats on trailers start to go by in the spring as well. Well hey, that was just a little look at some English words and phrases that have to do with the season of spring. Bob the Canadian here. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to subscribe and click the bell notification. Give me a thumbs up, share this video with a friend and I will see you in the next video. Have a great day!
