--Hello, everyone! I am Ali Ewoldt and I am so excited to welcome you to my brand
new Broadway.com vlog Dear Daaé that's all about me
playing Christine Daae in the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway here at the
Majestic Theatre in New York City. Um so I'm very excited to go on this journey
with you over the next eight weeks. You're gonna see some really cool
backstage stuff. We're preparing for Phantom's 30th anniversary, which is gonna
be amazing. So there are gonna be a lot of really cool adventures there and so this
first episode is gonna be you know a little getting to know you a little team
Christine. I've gathered them all together and our version of a little
making the video where you'll get to see a little making of the Instagram video.
And if you haven't seen the finished product, you'll know what I'm talking
about when you watch this episode. Go and check out my Instagram page because it's
really dorky and hilarious. Um yeah oh the other thing is, I filmed this a
little bit early because I'm actually gonna be in the Philippines next week,
more about that later, um so if you see a lot of Christmas stuff around, I
apologize. It was Christmas here now, so that's sort
of what's happening in our world, and I think that's it. I hope you guys enjoy.
Okay... one more thing. If you have any suggestions or questions or things that
you are dying to see, please message me on Twitter. I'm at Ali Ewoldt, and
include @Broadway.com as well #DearDaae. I should probably go...
go do a show now. I'll see you soon.
Dear Daae, today's a very exciting day because I'm about to meet my new Phantom. He's
actually starred as the Phantom both on Broadway and in London and in Sweden ,and
is a huge star. If you don't know who he is, google him
His name's Peter Jobak. We're gonna have rehearsal soon and I can't wait
to meet him. --Yeah?
--Hi! So nice to meet you.
--Great to see you
--How long have you been here for? --I've been here, come have a seat.
--Say hi to Broadway.com! --Hi!
--I've been here
about a year and a half now.
--Okay --And you were you were last year what
three years?
--Yeah I was five years ago five 2013..
Only five months. -- Is it like
riding a bike or not really?
--I feel okay.
We did it in
Stockholm last year for a year year but that was in Swedish so...
--You have to remember everything. If you just
laughs into Swedish, I like it. --Yeah it'll be good.
--I'm happy to work with you. It's gonna be
amazing. Is that it from your fans?
--Yeah. Aren't they cool? Some some are a
little more abstract. But they're awesome. --Yeah, we're gonna rehearse now.
--Here we go!
--Yeah.
--Dear Daae,
usually there's only one Christine in the Christine dressing room and more
often than not there's only one Christine in the building at a time, but
today is a very special day. It is photo call day, which means! Yay!
Kaylee's here with me! We're having a little a little Christine party.
--A little pow-wow. Having a little fun. --Excuse
our half faces and bald caps cuz you know like you do, right?
--It's a loo. It's a look!
["Sisters" from White Christmas plays]
If that could just be a little more from these come in from down
--Yeah, nice.
[laughs]
Perfect Ali, you want to put one arm up on here?
--Sure. --There we go and a little bit
tighter in Rodney. --Oh.
--[laughs]
[Singing opera warm-ups]
--Okay so I did a little vlog research while I was preparing for
this one and I saw on Laura Osnes's vlogs because she's the loveliest that
she does a one-minute plank every show and I tried to figure out where to put
it in, and this is my only break. I actually just put this costume on across the
stage came up here use the restroom because it's my only chance and
so now I'm gonna try and get a plank in. Okay.
--Just made it. Now, I have to go back to the other side of the stage.
Okay so I have to go in a second, but I just wanted to give you a quick little
tour. Look! I have lights now up in my room that Andrew just put. Here's my
amazing fan art. Got my phantom doll up. Some more beautiful fan art. I love it so
if anyone has more please send it in. These are my parents. They dressed up for
Halloween on a cruise ship, and I adore this picture. Oh my gosh. I got to go
I'm gonna go do my second act. Bye!
--Got Sarah Snyder. --Hey!
--Team dresser extraordinaire. There she is.
Elizabeth Wells. You've already met the wonderful Kailey. And I'm wearing a Santa
hat cos you know we're making a video.
--It's the holiday season. --The holiday season.
--A whoop-die-do,
--Do we have any Christine secrets or bloopers we'd like to share with the
viewers at home? --Besides my $10 lipstick?
--So many. --That's a good secret, too
Hey Kailey, have you ever fallen down on stage?
[laughs]
--How dare you?!
--I've fallen a lot on stage.
I fall down probably more than anyone has
fallen down ever on stage.
--I don't think that's true.
--Honestly, it you said that but it might be true.
--Are you on tonight because it might be...
--But honestly the but the worst one, the worst one, was during Rodney's first week
here. It was like our second show on together okay right and Paul was on for
Phantom. And he goes, he yells at the end, just like go now and leave me!
--Oh because Paul... a little earlier. --Yes, so literally, I
turn to run away and I tripped on the dress and my legs get tangled.
--Because the epic.
--It's epic.
--It's like so many layers and so my legs got tangled in the
layers.
--I was watching you from the travel...
--Rodney is holding my hand still...but I am flat on my
stomach on the ground and I tried to crawl, but I can't crawl because I can't get my
legs out! So, I'm just laying there literally
nailing my way to the sides. Like clawing my way to the side,
--And Paul meanwhile was like, Go.
--Meanwhile --Seriously, go, Christine!
--Meanwhile Paul is standing there just like
just like watch watching me die. And poor Rodney, poor Rodney, has both of his hands
on my hands and is literally dragging me off. --So funny.
--Honestly, that's one of the worst falls that I had,
but like one of many.
--So of course I could not have an
episode about team Christine without featuring my favorite member,
my little Mia Belle, who really likes this camera right now. She's my little
pup. You'll see more of her. I hope you all enjoyed, and I'll see you next week!
Thank you so much! Bye!
