Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Verb Phrase 108. The verb phrase today is to fall for someone or something. Okay. We have two uses and both uses are actually very common. Here's the first one. If someone falls for another person, he or she falls in love with someone else or gets a very strong crush on them. Then we say somebody fell for someone. Or number two. To be deceived , to be deceived or duped or tricked. You know, especially, especially by a trick or a scam. We say somebody fell for a scam. Somebody fell for a trick. Okay. Good. Let's give several examples here. Example number one. I fell for your father the moment I met him . It was love at first sight. So of course this is the one that either means like a crush or falling in love with somebody. You say you fell for someone. You often hear something like this especially in the movies. We often hear that you know, somebody saying oh I fell for your father. Or I fell for your mother and blah , blah, blah. Okay. Let's look at number two. They say Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie first fell for each other while filming the movie "Mr.. and MRS. . Smith' in 2004 . Yeah. Okay. Good and they were both of them married at that time ? I don't know they might have been to other to other actresses or actors. Okay and number number three. here. I cannot believe you fell for that phone scam. Yeah. We often hear about phone scams. People get tricked. They end up believing it and they wired their money or sent their money. Then we say somebody fell for ... really for any sort of a scam. But a phone scam is quite a common one. Didn't anyone ever tell you about that ? Yes. Sometimes you've heard about it. It's been out there for a while, then you find out somebody still .. somebody you know still gets fooled by it. They. somebody they still fall for it. Okay. Let's look at number four. She fell for that conman and he cheated her out of most of her wealth. Okay. So again this "fall for" both of these uses are very common. Anyway. I hope you got it. I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
