Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Idioms 214. The idiom today is keep
abreast. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. If someone keeps abreast of
something, he or she puts in a lot of effort to try to keep up with the most
recent facts or latest news about a situation. Okay. Let's continue . The word
abreast by itself is an adverb meaning next to each other or about like the same
level with something. So if you keep abreast of the news or information you
try to keep up with or stay level with the latest changing news or information
about a subject. Okay. So let's give some examples here example. Number one. I watch
the news every day because I like to keep abreast of the latest news. Yeah. You
often hear people say that. That's why they watch the news. They want to keep
abreast with what's happening in the world or you know , the latest situations.
All right. Number two. If you buy stocks, you need to keep abreast with the state of
the economy. Yeah. So no matter what stocks you buy, the economy could
possibly have a serious effect upon your stocks. Either going up or going down.
So if you're somebody that's really into stocks, you can't just focus on the stock
itself, you got to stop focus on the economy and maybe even a little politics
as well. Number three. Many women buy fashion magazines, so they can keep
abreast with the latest fashion styles. Okay. That's just the way we would use it.
Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it was clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
