  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Prepositional Phrase one. The prepositional

  • phrase today is for good. Okay. Let's take a look at the note. If someone does

  • something for good or something happens for good, it is permanent or forever. So

  • usually that's the end. It doesn't come back. It doesn't return. It's for good. All

  • right. For good can also mean that something is done for the benefit of

  • others or for the benefit of mankind or something like that.

  • Okay. So let's look at several examples here. Example number one. I think Bill and

  • Jane broke up for good this time. Their quarrel was too serious. I don't

  • think they will ever get back together again. Yeah. That's what we might say

  • somebody separated for good or broke up for good. Even though it's not really

  • good because it's probably divorce or or a breakup. But , but that's the way we use

  • it to mean permanently. Number 2 here. After he got a wake-up call from the

  • doctor, he decided to give up smoking for good. Yeah. Maybe the doctor gave him very

  • strong stern warnings. Like if you don't smoke ... if you don't stop smoking you know,

  • you're going to get lung cancer or something like that. Or you know you only

  • have so many years left. Anyway he got a wake-up call. So he decided to give up

  • smoking for good, for real this time. Never go back to it. All right. Number 3

  • here. He gave up being a lawyer for good after he realized that he , he helped to

  • free a pedophile that went back to commit crimes. Yes. Sometimes maybe

  • somewhere some lawyers feel guilty about something. Even though he was doing his job, he

  • didn't like the results. So maybe there was something that made him stop being a

  • lawyer. Okay. Good and four or five this is more like you know, for the good of

  • others. So let's look at number four. He decided to use some of his wealth for

  • good and donated to several charities. So you know, for the good of people or

  • for the good of others. And number five. He wants to use his fame for good and he

  • came out to support several causes or at least several causes he believed in. So

  • he's doing it for good, for the good of others or for the good of mankind. Okay,

  • Anyway I hope you got it. I hope it was clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
