sticker shock. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. Sticker shock is the shock

someone feels upon discovery of learning the price of something that was much

higher than expected or could also be used with bills that have were

unexpectedly high or much higher than you imagined it should be. You say ' Oh my God. "

Kind of like that, where your eyes almost pop out. In that sense, we say that

somebody gets sticker shock or has sticker shock or experiences sticker

shock. You might be able to use all these verbs with it. All right. Let's continue. The

origin of this term started in the 1970s when the price of cars suddenly

substantially increased in cost due to government regulations or new government

regulations. So they got some extra ones and high inflation. So it was a combination of

both. The extra government regulations made the cars companies have to charge

more money and there was a lot of inflation during the 1970s too,

especially during the Jimmy Carter era. And of course the two of them combined

together suddenly the price .... (people would start to say) Oh my God ! Cars cost that now. So they said

that's when the term first started appearing. We said sticker shock. You know

so stickers, sticker sometimes refers to like you know, like a price tag. So that's

where the idea of this sticker came from. So and looking at it was shocking. So

sticker shock. Okay. And let's ... we have three examples to cover this. When John

received his yeah, received his hospital bill from a 10-day stay due to an

accident, he receive... received sticker shock. Yes, especially if you're uninsured. If...

you have no insurance or a lot of times your insurance might not cover all of us

and it could be many thousands of dollars. A ten-day stay, it might be

more money than you earned in a year could be your hospital bill. Like that. Ahhhh ! Again

your eyes would pop out. You experienced or you received sticker shock.

All right. Number two here. Many people claimed to experience sticker shock when

the health care coverage cost vastly increased due to Obamacare. Yeah. I

remember when that was happening. Reports on the news, they were offering. They were

often using the term "sticker shock" that people were shocked that you know, and it

seemed like every year their health care bills were going up twenty, thirty, forty

percent per year. So they were they were experiencing sticker shock due to that.

All right and now the last one here. I was thinking of buying a house in that

neighborhood but when I checked out the prices I experienced sticker shock. Like (gasping )

"oh well sorry" I don't think I can afford to live in that neighborhood. So it was

much more than expected or much more than you thought, so you received sticker
