  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Noun Phrase 122. The noun phrase today is love

  • bite. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. A love bite is also referred to as

  • a hickey. Yeah. Sometimes I even think I hear hickey more , but you may hear both. Either

  • love bite or Hickey. This is a small red mark left on someone's skin, typically

  • the neck. You always see it on the neck. That's the most common place. It is

  • caused by someone lightly biting or sucking on the surface of the skin., in a

  • passionate way, usually during lovemaking or making out or something like that.

  • It tends to be more common among very, very young lovers. Okay. Let's continue.

  • The origin of the name love bite is obvious because it is a mark usually

  • caused by lovemaking. The origin of hickey is a little less clear. It could

  • be connected to an old use or an old meaning that we don't really use anymore.

  • You know, of hickey meaning pimples. So at one time, hickey actually meant a pimple

  • or an inflated elevation on the skin. Those, those meanings have kind of faded

  • away, but a love bite part is what still remains. All right. And here's just three

  • examples of this. Example. number one. Sarah is wearing a scarf today because

  • she is trying to cover up some love bites she got on a date with her

  • boyfriend. Yeah. So that's one way that especially if a girl got love bites

  • maybe she'll try to find some way to cover it up. And if you really ... if makeup

  • cannot do it or something like that well maybe just wear a scarf that day. So you had better

  • hope it is just during cooler weather. Or number two here. Trying to see if you

  • know if some powder or makeup can cover your love bite. So that's another way. If

  • the love bites are lighter, you might be able to get away with just some

  • powder or makeup might be able to cover them. Or number three here. Love bites

  • will usually naturally go away in about a week or

  • so. That's what they say. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope you

  • enjoyed it. I hope it was informative. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
