Certainly for the person that's taking a lot of photos I think is, you know, I bought it and I think like you maxed out my macbook pro. I cleaned up my macbook pro, the 15" retina display one. Wiped it clean before I left for the trip. Then I filled that up with all my raw files. Then I also backed it up to the drobo mini I brought with me So I kinda had you know a bunch of SD cards that I swapped out, cleaned out then as I was eventually using those up going along so I think I took like 3500 photos on that trip. And the drobo mini went super fast using thunderbolt. So all of those raw files being over to transfer over so quickly and being able to store there. God that's fast isn't it? That thunderbolt on drobos. So Fast. It's beautiful. It's like a hundred gigabytes of data is there in like 3 minutes it feels like. And you can edit off of that drobo too. So being able to sit there and you could literally import all the photos directly to the drobo and there's really no latency at all while over thunderbolt. And for anyone who's not familiar with what that is exactly. It's redundant storage. So what Clayton is talking about is being able to get all your stuff off your SD Cards. And for photographers who are traveling this is just brilliant. It's a little portable device so it uses like four 2 1/2 inch drives and it has a MSATA card as well for acceleration. And So this is just great for photographers not having to worry about, Oh my God did I get everything off that SSD Card? What if something happens to my hard drive while I'm traveling? You know it's redundant storage. So it'll back up the data and keep it safe even if a drive fails. So for photographers and for travelers. We do video. John P does photography. So for both of those purposes when we travel, which we do like 70% of our time, we're taking the drobo mini with us and making sure that we don't have to come back and be like "Uh oh I just lost everything I spent our time capturing". You know. It's a really useful device and very portable. Like I said they have bigger devices for personal use at home and business use and IT departments and everything. But this one is little. I love it. One of my drives died actually too. I don't know if it was in flight or when I got there or something it had died. It didn't matter I mean you know it's really swapping the data between those drives and so you're not losing anything. As Cali said, it's redundant. So it's just great. I saw some people asking or wanting talking about the drobo 5N or the 5D. I mean I even I use the 5D on my home IMac. So that's the big boy that I don't move at all. And that bad boy, you know, I have that all for thunderbolt too. And I spoof it all. I store my entire lightroom library on it. And it's super fast. Yea well you probably when you have the mini when you're going when you're traveling, you bring it back. You drop everything on the 5D and then you have a clear drive or drives for when you're traveling again right? Right. Yea Yea I can clean it totally off again for the next yea. Hey Cali claims someone is asking your digital R and Rizben is asking do you guys have a drobo that you can show them. I don't. You know I'm not at the office at the moment. I have a drobo 5D here. Ahh The cover of it right there that goes on Actually I might be able to show the whole unit here. I don't know. You mean the drobo. Right? Yea. It's going under the desk. The drobo 5D. Right there. There you go. There's the whole unit. It lights up. Those green lights are like. It litghts up. Those green lights are like if something is wrong with the drive or if it's full. And then those blue lights underneath are capacity lights so you can see how much storage you have left on your deivice. So it's really easy to kind of tell. Oh you have the back cover, you have the cover right? Ah yea. Flip it over. On the back of the cover? Oh yea you're right. There it is. That's all you need to know. It's brilliant. LIke those are the instructions. That's it. Well it's just plug and play which is really cool but you know what I'd thought about the drobo mini board. I'm going to implent this later this year as part of the back plan. I want to take. Get a drobo mini cause it uses those smaller little laptop hard drives. And those are more durable than other hard drives. Because they are made to be drosseled around in a laptop and things. And so I want to get one of those and then back everything up and then take those little mini drives, put a rubber band around them and go put them in a safety deposit box in a vault in a bank. I've thought about that. And then it's like Why not? Put them in a vault. What does a safe deposit box cost? 100 bucks a year? 10 bucks a year. I don't know what are they? Thirty four now. Thirty four. They're small enough. You can fit them in there and if you fill up 4 drives, then just get 4 new ones and just keep storing them in the vault. Yea and they'll go from being 250 gigabytes. I'm sure each of those little ones will be a terabyte in a year. Oh they're already there in terabytes. I 've had to go buy all new hard drives for my drobo, I have the same one as you. Thomas. I had to put all - I guess I have 3 terabytes drives. I put five 3 terabyte drives in it. Yea. It's great. I love it . It's so fast. You can with any of the drobos you can actually mix and match sizes. Which you can't do with other storage devices. So you can have a one terabytes You can have a three terabyte. It doesn't matter. It'll still do it's thing. You know one thing I will say, this my 6th drobo. I've got 5 other. Yea? Yea. I fill them up. And I can see why. And the leap leap in technology. The thunderbolt leap from the previous generation drobo to this drobo is like 10,000 %. I mean it is just. It's finally. The other ones are great and they did their job. But this thing is just like. It's so slick. Yea they were a little slow you know before on the first gens. But this thunderbolt, the new ones are a lot. I also have 2 Promise Pegasus drives. Each one's a a terabyte drive. And you know, I know that there's a lot of anti mac photographs out there. That's fine. But this. If you want to make the leap. It's pretty much the same nowadays frankly. It won't take you that long to get used to. And you're going to get thunderbolt and when you connect to Promise Pegasus or drobo, it will change your photography life. You know they used to say back in the day, well just add more RAM and you're computer will be faster. Well if you just go thunderbolt and have, you know a big giant Promise Pegasus or a drobo, you'll be in a whole new world. Yea and so will your bank account. Those things are not cheap. I mean this is 1 point you know 5 terabytes Seagate that I use for backing mine on. You know 150 bucks. So I mean I get that drobo is probably I don't have one but I get that they are probably light years faster and what not. But man for 1/10 of the price I don't think most people can afford a drobo. Well they're faster It's when your data is super important that I mean you know. Any data you really want to secure. My data is super important. And so are my dollars. Very true. But consider that you know that Seagate. That's a great little drive. But it won't. Oh she's marginalizing seagate. No no no. Like I had a western digital one just like that seagate and - I like seagate - It was one of the large ones. It was like a 3 terabyte Western Digital. And I put like my entire Itunes library on it and it just crashed. Gone. Yea what if it crashes? What if he dropped it? What if something happens to it you have no I mean if you build your business like Thomas and Tray. Right. No redundancy there. Around photography and around these large files that your entire business is dependent upon it. And then for just to have a drive go up. That's another story. I get Gino's point though. I hear that Tray's installing a drobo mini in his Mercedes Benz. Laugh. Isn't that right Tray? No. No. It's going his model S. You're new Mercedes Benz SUV, you're not having a drobo installed? No. No I'm not. I think you're mixing your stories up Thomas. He's actually
