Fear of the coronavirus is sparking panic-buying. 2
It's just about impossible to find hand sanitizer. 3
We went to five different drugstores and pharmacies 4
in this Manhattan neighborhood, including this CVS, 5
and where the hand sanitizer normally would be, 6
all we could find were empty shelves. 7
Today, New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo 8
sought to reassure everyone 9
as he spoke about the first confirmed case in New York City. 10
They have symptoms. 11
The symptoms are similar to what you would have 12
with the normal flu. 13
And for most people, they treat themselves, over 80%, 14
and the virus resolves that way. 15
Health officials are considering 16
shutting down large gatherings, like political rallies. 17
Bernie Sanders held one this weekend 18
with comedian Sarah Silverman. 19
And President Trump has a rally tonight in Charlotte. 20
10,000 supporters are expected to attend. 21
Is it safe or appropriate to be holding rallies 22
during a public health crisis like this? 23
Well, these were set up a long time ago, and others are. 24
I mean, you could ask that to the Democrats, 25
because they're having a lot of rallies. 26
They're all having rallies, that's what they're doing. 27
They're campaigning. 28
But do you think it's safe? 29
Are you worried at all? 30
I think it's very safe, yeah. 31
We spoke to disaster preparedness expert 32
Dr. Irwin Redlener. 33
What is it about large gatherings of people 34
that makes a virus like this so dangerous? 35
So, when you cough or sneeze 36
and you have a dangerous virus like that, 37
so in the droplets when you cough and sneeze 38
are live viruses. 39
You may be sitting next to someone 40
who actually has the virus. 41
And if you don't, you don't wanna be sitting there. 42
(audience cheering) 43
(bright orchestral music)
