- The west end of Louisville is near and dear to me.
That's where I'm from.
I just see infinite opportunity here.
My name is Danette Matthews.
I have two children.
I also have custody of my sister's five children.
So that's a total of seven.
Having seven kids, it's a challenge.
It's a lotta different things at a lotta different times.
(laughs)
- [Group] Oh!
- When I was laid off from my job,
it was absolutely terrifying.
I knew something had to change.
So when I heard about the Applied Digital Skills courses
at AMPED, that definitely appealed to me.
- Today we're gonna work on creating a professional resume.
- AMPED is a non-profit organization.
They offer free adult learning classes
while your children are learning music.
- That was it! (laughs)
- Google Applied Digital Skills works great for us at AMPED.
This is a free video curriculum
that can teach anyone basic digital skills.
It's one thing to ask a person
to pull themselves up by their bootstraps,
but it's cruel when that person has no boots.
Digital skills gives you boots.
- You're learning how to create spreadsheets,
documents, forms, and surveys.
I'm thinking, "I can put this on my resume.
"I can become more marketable."
I love the budgeting module.
Having seven kids, it is imperative to have a budget.
(laughs)
The Applied Digital Skills Course
is accessible absolutely anywhere,
so it was really easy to balance mommy duties
with my educational priorities.
Go up, squat down.
Oh Lord, he's such a show of. (laughs)
I think the Applied Digital Skills Course
can be a catalyst for anyone in West Louisville.
- It's a blessing.
When you lift up one person,
you lift up the entire community.
- I am looking forward to the future.
I feel like I'm now ready to be able to compete.
I envision really great things happening for me,
for my family.
It's empowering to have that knowledge
that nobody can take away from you.
