TONIGHT.... A MAN CONVICTED FOR
KILLING THREE BIRMINGHAM POLICE
OFFICERS... IS SET TO BE PUT TO
DEATH AT
HOLMAN PRISON IN ATMORE.
ADVOCATES ON BEHALF OF NATHANIEL
WOODS ARE URGING THE GOVERNOR TO
STOP
HIS EXECUTION.

US LIVE AT HOLMAN WHERE THAT
LETHAL INJECTION
IS ONLY ABOUT AN HOUR AWAY....
This case has gotten national
attention in the last
few days - after the son of
civil rights icon Dr. Martin
Luther King Junior got involved
advocating on
behalf of Nathaniel Woods. But
at this point the
execution is planned to go on as
scheduled.
Woods has been sitting on death
row for more than a
decade ... convicted in the 2004
murders of three
Birmingham police officers ....
Charles Bennett, Harley
Chisholm III, and Carolos Ownen.
In this last week is when
efforts to save his life really
ramped up.
Another man - Kerry Spencer -
was also
sentenced to death for the
crime. Spencer has
admitted he was the shooter. In
the past week advocates for
Woods have sent
several letters to Governor Kay
Ivey calling him "an
innocent man" since he didn't
pull the trigger.
But Alabama's Attorney General
is fighting for his
death to move forward. He says
Woods was no
innocent bystander, but "an
active participant" ... citing
testimony from the only
surviving officer that Woods
pointed out one of the officers
so Spencer could
shoot him.
Earlier today attornies for
Woods filed a motion in a
federal court of appeals asking
for a stay of
exection. A federal ruling or
word from the Governor
could stop the exection at any
point before the lethal
drug is administered. Live at
