MALTE BEDURFTIG: Back in 2015, we had a situation
that there were a lot of refugees coming to Germany.
And we also had a lot of people here in Germany
who really wanted to help.
But actually, it wasn't always easy to find out
where this help is needed.
DOMINIQUE PRESCHER: GoVolunteer is an online platform
where people can find a social project that
fits to their field of interest where they want to help.
You can find social projects now in more than 100 cities
in Germany.
GoVolunteer wants to make volunteering part
of everyone's daily life.
And we think that Google is the perfect accelerator for it
because it is already part of everyone's daily life.
MALTE BEDURFTIG: It's actually a challenge if you start an NGO,
but you're not even aware that you started an NGO.
But because you start as a group of friends,
since we have very serious goals.
We also want to work professionally
towards achieving them.
GoVolunteer volunteer became part of the Google
for Nonprofits Program, and that helped us actually in two ways.
On the one hand, through the Google App Grants Program,
we had the chance to reach many more
people out there who were looking
for volunteering opportunities.
The number of users increased by more than 30%.
On the other end, it also helped us as an organization
to develop.

DOMINIQUE PRESCHER: We use GSuite
for Nonprofits in various ways.
We use the Google Drive for all our files,
Gmail for all our mailings.
We use Google Sheets for our data processing.
MALTE BEDURFTIG: GoVolunteer has developed
a lot in the past four years, and we have also
extended our mission and our aspiration levels a bit.
Yeah, Active Newcomers is a program
that actually helps people who are new in Germany to also
get active in the volunteering opportunity.
ABDAN OBAID: My life before I started to volunteering
wasn't like my life after.
Originally, I'm from Yemen.
I'm in Germany to help follow my masters
in interior architecture.
And I was trying to meet new people,
and that's one of the reasons why I love to volunteer.
But from the beginning, it was a big problem
because of the language.
DOMINIQUE PRESCHER: What people typically search for on Google
when they find an organization, how to learn German.
So this is, like, the most successful phrase
that we are using in the Google Ads.
That way, people that are new to Germany find the program.
ABDAN OBAID: This makes me, like, give me
more friends, more confidence, develop my language, my German.
I have, like, a strong [INAUDIBLE]
from my heart, which is, like, to help people.
So if you're living in this area,
be a part of this community and do something.
