  • Welcome to another weird coffee review.

  • And this time we have this drink which I've been putting off reviewing for a little while, not just because it's the essence of coffee and cola that it has no sweeteners, that it has no calories.

  • That's by the by.

  • The difficult thing for me about this is the name.

  • Because here is the great Atlantic divide Americans you want to say Lacroix and I find that very odd.

  • But at the same time, when it comes to talking about that crescent shaped laminated dough pastry, America is very comfortable saying, Chris aunt, which I just can't get down with.

  • But I understand it.

  • You are consistent this side of the Atlantic.

  • We are.

  • We're close enough to France to feel like we ought to say it like them.

  • But we totally bottle it.

  • So we do.

  • You know, we just say things like question quickly and embarrassingly, and we feel bad about ourselves.

  • We can't do a question that makes us feel ridiculous.

  • So we live in this awful halfway house to me, that's like, Wow, But if that makes you feel weird, sure I don't.

  • I'm just gonna go with Lacroix today because it's an American company there in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

  • And they made this drink, which caused a little bit of upset when it came out of the start of the year.

  • It was designed to celebrate Miami's sort of Hispanic culture.

  • People argued.

  • I think reasonably fairly that the depiction of Cuba on here is reasonably cheesy and kind of tacky.

  • But they've made a coffee cola.

  • It's the essence of Sumatra coffee and cola.

  • It wouldn't really matter where it was.

  • I'd still be reasonably nervous.

  • It doesn't really tell me what's in here other than it's got nothing in here in terms of calories or anything.

  • Fund.

  • Generally people are into these products, right?

  • Like McRoy do nice tasting, fizzy water, and I'm done with it.

  • It's a little hipster or whatever.

  • Maybe it's time is over.

  • By now.

  • I've enjoyed their beverages, but this one makes me nervous.

  • So let's crack it open.

  • Good, good.

  • Hoping for a nice face.

  • It is a completely clear drink, which is which is semi interesting.

  • Oh, what?

  • I don't even know what I'm smelling there.

  • Okay, that was confusing because I was like, why is there Citrus here and there because it's cola.

  • The coffee smell is now.

  • The cola smell is nice enough.

  • A little Citrus heavy is a cobra by the smell of things.

  • Not many people would think about this sort of component flavors of cola.

  • Typically, you have orange, lemon, lime, cinnamon, nutmeg often and their know, roly oil is a pretty common aromatic and colors Well, I guess we just dive in.

  • Here we go.

  • Cheers.

  • Uh, that's just, um wow, that is okay.

  • That's quite an interesting sensory experience.

  • It's not a good sensory experience, but it's an interesting one.

  • This is kind of a common feature of a lot of coffee color, retyped things where you have this kind of air and full of flavor, rightly have these little pops of different things.

  • First sip, there was like a bad coffee taste that quickly gave way like a cola re fruitiness.

  • Oh, yeah, like that first moment you put your lips, you get this sort of lack of bad coffee taste in the cooler, and then then the lingering bad coffee flavor.

  • I think the science roughly says that the size of the aromatic compound determines is volatility so smaller things go volatile faster, and you tend to experience the sooner in this case I have night it was going on that is it that that's like a It's like a not terrible watery cola ruined by bad coffee taste without the coffee taste that might have been OK is like a like a zero calorie cola type thing that has very little acid, sweetness or joy.

  • It's so empty and so nothing like there's no texture.

  • There's no, you know, really intensity of flavour.

  • It's not.

  • It's still fizzy water, basically with a little bit of something.

  • If this was my culture you were representing, I would not be happy about it.

  • You know what?

  • If this is, if this is, ah, cheesy depiction of Cuban culture and I think it is, it's a pretty terrible depiction of coffee flavor at the same time, let's go with that.

  • It is not the best that coffee has to offer here.

  • No one really seems to understand the good flavors of coffee.

  • They understand the cheap, generic, unpleasant, bitter, harsh, ugly flavors of coffee that are most coffee drinks around the world.

  • But but no one seems interested in zeroing in on the really good flavors of coffee and making them a thing.

  • Don't buy this.

  • I mean, if you probably wouldn't buy this at this point.

  • I suppose if you watched enough of these, you're you're an informed consumer.

  • Well done.

  • I don't know, but this is not a high point for you.

  • So I'm saying I'm not gonna try and do too many of these type of videos.

  • There's lots of other stuff I want to make.

  • And actually, some of you really enjoy these.

  • Lots of you don't really care.

  • And that's okay.

  • I'm a little overwhelmed by things to taste that are weird And coffee, like right now, if there's something super weird, An amazing let me know.

  • But But I'm aware of, like, at least a dozen things, and I have about half a dozen things still have to taste.

  • So I could just do these, like, one a week and never really catch up, Which isn't gonna happen.

  • I'm afraid so.
