hi there welcome back to Harry's world of words and phrases we want to talk
about apples and oranges very common English idiom that we use when we're talking
about comparisons but we use it in comparisons when things don't really
look alike or they can't be compared let me give you an example if you go to the
city to get something to eat you have a choice of fast-food restaurants like
McDonald's or you can go to your local home made restaurant where they serve
delicious food where you can sit down and enjoy it with your family both meals
will fill you up both meals will be satisfactory but their homemade meal in
your local restaurant but would be far superior so you can't compare McDonald's
with the homemade restaurant so it's like comparing apples with oranges both
fruits but very different okay so next time somebody uses the phrase to you or
that's apples and oranges you'll know that it's about two things that really
can't be compared okay so remember to look us up on our website
www.englishlessonviaskype.com or tuning to us on our youtube channel see you soon
thank you
