Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles My name is Swarnalakshmi basically I am a Teleguite and born and brought up in north I have done my computer science graduation in the University at Nagpur Immediately as soon as I finished my degree my parents they got me engaged for marriage to get married And soon, before 15 days of my marriage I just lost my vision all of a sudden on a fine evening The moment when I lost my vision I lost all my senses I was paralyzed Then the cause was diagnosed that I had brain tumor later I had undergone 12 to 13 hours of major operation It was really a miracle for me to survive that operation But after the operation and all when I regained my senses I just had a feeling that I lost everything nothing was left because I had to restart my life right from walking to eating and I never knew what was the expression in the other person's face I would be talking to some person and he would be just moving away from me and I would not be knowing that he is not by my side I would be talking Then he would turn back and he would feel very bad and he would say "Ok,sorry! I will be coming back I just moved out from your place" And all my colleagues They got employed by that time in the US and in the UK they were very good then I felt very low That everybody is going ahead of me and I was just dropped out like a thing And I was the only daughter in my family and they protected me too much My father used to have an eye on me he used to keep a watch my brother was always protective my mother never used to leave my hands wherever I used to go right from walking till my bed my mother used to be there with me Basically my mom was optimistic female she never thought that "my daughter has lost something" from the day I got discharged she just asked me "you can slowly fold the clothes" like whatever I washed clothes and all "You have to fold it and keep" And if some button has come out of my shirt or something she used to put the thread into the needle and she used to give it to me "You know, right, how to stitch? Do that!" She never made me feel that I am something different now That was one thing And second thing In Bangalore there is an NGO which is called Art of Living Which is being head up by Guruji Sri Sri Ravi Shankar I joined them actually Then Guruji was one motivation he kept on telling "it's all fine, fine! It`s nothing as disability. People have different ways to do the work You people have different type That's it! You don't have any problem. You are quite good!" And that gives me peace of mind I used to do the meditations and all Which I learned from him I got his blessings Till date I just spend one hour in the morning for my meditation and spiritual caring Then later on what happened I just got through some clues that Enable India is there and all these technologies are there and we also can work we have lives then it was really a great task done by Enable India because I called Shanti mam telling that my family will not allow me to be away from the family then people were there from Enable India for some conference in Loyola college, Chennai so we went there finally my family got convinced and they left me as part and parcel of Shanti maam I got through some interviews and all And finally the place where I am working now That was the organization which gave me the first offer and I just thought of because all the other companies where Enable India is placing those places they are already aware how the visually impaired work so I just wanted to make entry into a new company so that I give awareness let me take the responsibility of getting two more visually impaired employed I can't do great works like what Shanti maam and they are doing But I just thought Let me put a drop into the sea So I just got into this company and now I am just working here as a recruiter in the HR for past 6 months All are equal in this earth There is no partiality no bias existing treatment from the God's side and it's only the way you have to look at the things In a different way If suppose I keep grumbling I just sit inside the home and I keep grumbling that people don't pay attention to me I can do! I have the potential! It's only you have to help yourself And once you have put the first step ahead People are there to stretch hands towards you and you can just hold their hands and move ahead But initiation should be from your side!
