As it marks its 20th anniversary Southern Cross University is also celebrating its 55,000 graduates
who form a network of alumni across the globe. They represent the spectrum of
disciplines and degrees at SCU and are the University's proudest achievement. It's being
part of a system that produces not only quality for Australia but producing young people and
indeed not so young people who're out there making Australia a better place helping to
contribute to countries particularly in our region and being good at what they do. Alumnus
Alumnus Julie Granger is Special Counsel at Clayton Utz. Clayton Utz is one of the top tier law
firms here in Australia and one of the largest in Sydney. My Bachelor of Laws at Southern
Cross was really instrumental in helping me to not only get my job but also to enable
me to perform here at Clayton Utz. It's really important stay in touch with fellow alumni.
They're people that you knew when you were just starting out in your career and articularly,
if you move to a big city like I did from a regional area like Southern Cross, it's
important to know that you have those connections with people and that you can continue to develop
those relationships as you go on through your career. Each year the university recognises
its outstanding alumni through its Alumni of the Year awards. Each year we celebrate
our outstanding Alumni. We invite you to connect, be inspired by and become an outstanding alumnus.
Former outstanding Alumnus of the Year Lisa Messenger graduated with a Bachelor Business
and Tourism Management and is now Chief Executive Officer the Messenger Group. Winning Alumnus
of the year was so important to me because it was a real celebration for, you know, I
suppose what I've achieved over the last 10 or 11 years since leaving university.
And, it was really nice to be recognised, you know, for that time because I guess being
at Southern Cross is kinda where the journey began. Literally one in 7 billion and Guinness
Book of Records holder as the world's oldest student, Allan Stewart graduated with a Master
in Clinical Science 2012 at the age of 97. I had certainly no idea when I graduated with
my first degree in dentistry in 1936 that I would still be learning and studying at
the age of 97. There are many advantages of activating alumni membership. Join or create

great alumni benefits like free career services, future study incentives, member discounts

The opportunities through LinkedIn with SCU is that you get to meet other people and see
what they're doing and obviously that introduction. Having various alumni members all over the
world because it seems to be a very international focus there and staying connected in that
way and I actually liked the idea that because you have a shared journey in some way.
